From Kenya to the World: Toolkit Empowers Youth to Innovate and Thrive

Across the vibrant cityscape of Nairobi, Kenya, a different rhythm is emerging – one of
youthful hustle and tech-savvy ambition. This vibrancy finds its source in the Toolkit for
Skills and Innovation Hub, a Kenya-born social enterprise rewriting the narrative for
vulnerable youth and women. Founded in 2014 with a resolute spirit, Toolkit tackles the
headwind of youth unemployment with a digital-first approach, equipping its beneficiaries
with the skills and tools they need to navigate the ever-evolving job market.

But our story at Toolkit’s isn’t one of mere training. It’s about how we disrupt the landscape.
By identifying skill gaps within high-demand industries, Toolkit curates cutting-edge training
programs in sectors like welding using VR, solar installation, smart agriculture and CCTV
installation. These programs don’t end with theoretical knowledge; they are designed for
real-world impact, with industry partnerships forging the path to internships and full-time
employment.
But the journey doesn’t stop there. Recognizing the entrepreneurial spirit within its trainees,
Toolkit provides further support – incubating and nurturing nascent businesses. From access
to business development experts to seed funding opportunities, Toolkit fosters an ecosystem
where innovation thrives.
The Power of Skill and Confidence:
The success stories speak volumes about the transformative power of Toolkit’s programs.
Take Ann Njeri, who credits the Toolkit Solar Skills training program for not only equipping
her with technical skills but also instilling the confidence to excel in a traditionally male-
dominated field.
Levis Oluoch Odero similarly found in Toolkit’s program a chance to hone his electrical wiring
skills, propelling him towards a fulfilling career as a professional solar technician.
Belinda Umwiza, a refugee from Burundi, leveraged her Toolkit training to secure valuable
domestic installation projects and an incentive-based facilitator job at IRC, showcasing the
program’s ability to empower individuals who have overcome significant challenges.
These are just a few examples of the countless lives Toolkit has transformed. With its
commitment to innovative training, industry partnerships, and entrepreneurial support,
Toolkit is not only empowering individuals but also contributing to the development of a
skilled and thriving workforce in Kenya and beyond.

Over the years, Toolkit has trained and empowered over 8,017 youth and women, with an
impressive number of graduates of our programs acquiring employment. Their success

extends beyond Kenyan borders, with Toolkit’s innovative model attracting international
recognition and partnerships.

Indeed, our Toolkit story is a testament to the boundless potential of youth,
coupled with the power of innovative solutions. From the bustling streets of
Nairobi to the global stage, Toolkit is truly inspiring a generation to dream big,
innovate boldly, and thrive.
